About bone carving

What do bone carving designs mean?

Bone carvings share the meanings of traditional Māori forms: the koru for new beginnings, the manaia as a guardian, the toki for strength and courage, and the matau (fish hook) for prosperity and safe travel over water. Each product page explains its design.

Why does each bone carving look slightly different?

Each piece is carved individually, so the colour and grain of the bone vary from piece to piece. The one you receive will be unique.

Is a bone carving a good gift?

Bone carvings are a traditional and affordable taonga to give for birthdays, graduations, 21sts and farewells, often chosen for the meaning of their design.
