About this piece
The full set of 32 Māori chess pieces, ready for your own board. Each figure represents traditional Māori of Aotearoa, and every piece carries its te reo name, so a game of chess becomes a way to learn and share the reo.
The pieces and their sizes:
• Kingi (King): 140mm × 40mm
• Kuini (Queen): 135mm × 45mm
• Pihopa (Bishop): 120mm × 40mm
• Naiti (Knight), shown as a manaia: 90mm × 35mm
• Pātaka (Rook/Castle): 90mm × 42mm
• Paona (Pawn): 85mm × 35mm
The figurines are made from resin, with 32 pieces per set. Choose your two colours: black & green, black & red, green & white, red & white, green & red or black & white.
