The meaning
Manaia
The manaia is a guardian figure: a messenger between the earthly and spiritual worlds, said to watch over the one who wears it.
About this piece
Double Manaia with Whale Tail on base.
Size (mm): 260 W x 480 H x xx D
This wood carving is a beautiful piece of Maori art, hand-carved from wood. Ideal as an award or trophy, as the base is large enough for an engraved plaque.
The Manaia represents protection against evil with the whale tail carved showing the common view of the raised tail as the whale dives into deep water.
