The meaning
Pūrerehua
The pūrerehua (bullroarer) is a traditional instrument whose voice was used in ceremony and to call the rain. It sings as it's swung through the air.
About this piece
Four Swirl Pūrerehua (Bull Roar)
Size (mm): 240 x 95 x 13
This Pūrerehua is hand carved from Mahogany wood. The Pūrerehua is blade-like and swings on a long cord producing a loud, deep whirling sound that can be heard from a distance. A rapid spinning motion will start the music of the Purerehua'a song as it rotates and flutters. Uses vary from luring lizards, summoning rain, and even calling for and attracting a soul mate.
